Do you suffer with flat, sore feet? We are often Do you suffer with flat, sore feet?

We are often quick to prescribe orthotics when we see patients with flat feet. However, in many instances, we can build the arch back up by strengthening the feet and restoring proper foot function. As in most rehab protocols, this requires some attention to related structures of the kinetic chain and obviously some work on the patients part.

Here is great exercise we will often use to address foot and posterior hip strength. You can make the exercise harder by having a higher step and squatting deeper as a result or adding more tension on the band.

Goodluck.

🌻Spring has sprung🌻 The bikes are out, and 🌻Spring has sprung🌻

The bikes are out, and people are starting to be more active; running, walking, gardening, etc. Getting back into activity usually results in muscles being a bit sore and tight as the body wakes up from winter hibernation. This is a great calf stretch demonstrated by Denise to help with some of that leg tightness.

Use the variations discussed (knee closer to bench versus further away) to make the exercise easier or harder depending on your physical capabilities.

Hydration or dehydration is an issue or concern we Hydration or dehydration is an issue or concern we address regularly with our patients. Many symptoms of dehydration overlap with musculoskeletal conditions or may be a contributing factor in your overall health, performance and/or recovery.

In order to stay hydrated we obviously need to drink water. However, if we have a deficiency of salt, we can not absorb that water and despite the efforts to hydrate, we will still likely be dehydrated. There has been a lot of fear that has been created around salt intake. Let us be clear, salt is absolutely an essential nutrient in the body. Exercise, sweating, caffeine, hyperhydration, can all cause a salt deficiency, which may result in symptoms such as; muscle soreness, cramping, headaches, fatigue or low energy, irritability and mood changes.

Electrolytes can be a critical component of your daily hydration and overall health.

If you want more information on this topic, give these two individuals a follow @drjamesdinic and @kwadcast both discuss electrolyte use and hydration often in their personal lives as well as how it relates to overall health.

Each year, the @environmentalworkinggroup releases Each year, the @environmentalworkinggroup releases two very important lists to consider the next time you are grocery shopping.

The first is called the "Dirty Dozen." It is a list of fruits and vegetables that were most contaminated with pesticides. Number 1 on that list again this year are🍓.

The second list looks at the "Clean Fifteen" which are the fruits and vegetables with the least amount of pesticide residues. 🥑 sits at number 1 for this year.

How can these lists be helpful to you? Knowledge is power. These lists give us a good idea of what foods we may want to place in our shopping cart and which ones we may be skipping over. Buying organic can be another option, but with rising food costs, this is not always an option for families. However, knowing what fruits and veggies are high in pesticides, you may choose to buy only those foods organic. Alternatively, we can choose to fill our carts with more foods that are on the clean fifteen list and fewer foods on the dirty dozen list.

So much has changed when it comes to concussion tr So much has changed when it comes to concussion treatment and management.

Unfortunately, we still get patients coming into the clinic that have been prescribed things like rest, dark rooms, staying away from screens and wearing sunglasses. This is NOT what the latest research is recommending when it comes to concussion treatment and management. In actuality, if these recommendations are implemented for too long, they can actually delay recovery. Early assessment, education and reassurance are imparative when it comes to recovery and proper return to sport. Those individuals with persistent symptoms who don't feel like they are recovering, need to have an experienced concussion practitioner evaluate the various systems in the body that may be contributing to those symptoms. This may include the visual system, vestibular system, cervical spine, blood flow, gut health, psychological factors and autonomic nervous system.

If you suffer from concussion or are still experiencing symptoms of concussion we can help.
