Dr. Franco Vincelli
Clinic Director, Chiropractor, Active Release Techniques Provider, Certified Strength & Conditioning Coach
A graduate of Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto (DC) and the University of Western Ontario (BSc.), Dr. Vincelli is also a Certified Active Release Techniques Provider (ART®) and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). As a Chiropractor, Dr. Vincelli incorporates chiropractic treatments with soft tissue therapy (ART®), physical therapies, exercise (CSCS), rehabilitation and education to help his patients with the relief of pain, the alleviation of muscle tension and stiffness and the return to their daily activities faster.
Dr. Vincelli was born and raised in Nepean, before accepting a hockey scholarship to Niagara University, where he played Division 1 NCAA hockey. He also played for the University of Western Ontario, where he won a National Championship with the Western Mustangs Hockey Team. His passion for health, sports and prevention of sports injuries, extends beyond the clinic setting of the Active Health Institute. Dr. Vincelli serves as the editor of the Active Health Institute Newsletter and has authored several articles on the topic of injury prevention for the Ottawa Bicycle Club Newsletter and other publications. He has also focused his efforts on the advancement of chiropractic care through education and presentations to various groups and organizations, including the RCMP, the Running Room, Totten Sims Hubicki Engineers and Business Networking International (Competitive Edge Chapter). He continues to work with competitive athletes as their chiropractor and strength and conditioning coach, while also acting as a health and fitness consultant between patients and their personal trainers.
Dr. Vincelli's integrative approach to treatment, passion to educate and caring attitude lend his chiropractic skills to the successful treatment of his patients and ability to motivate them to a healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Andréa Proulx BScH, ND.

As an ND, Andréa strives to empower her patients to take an active role in their health and enjoy a happy and active lifestyle. With patients Andréa strives to stimulate the body’s innate power to heal through nutritional and lifestyle counseling, acupuncture and traditional Asian medicine, botanical medicine, and physical medicine.
During her medical education, Andréa completed a rotation in the Pain Management and Sports Medicine Clinic where she was a forerunner and advocate for the continuity and development of the Naturopathic Sports Medicine Group.Both personally and professionally, Andréa endeavors to achieve creative balance for the needs of the mind, body, and soul. She believes in personalized care and addressing the root cause of disease; working together with the patient to see from new perspectives and realize new goals.
As a former Queen’s Golden Gael varsity Track & Field pole vaulter, Andréa has continued to nurture her love of sport. She has completed the Olympic distance triathlon and enjoyed the Ottawa Marathon numerous times. Dr Proulx firmly believes that it is important to be an active member of the community. Combining her passion for health and education, Andréa is a volunteer with Planned Parenthood Ottawa. In addition, she contributes her time, energy and organizational zeal to the Ottawa Carleton Ultimate Association.

Scott Hamlin

A graduate of Anatomical Studies from McGill University and a Masters of Science in Physiotherapy from McMaster University, Scott Hamlin is a motivated and experienced physiotherapist with extensive training in orthopedic and out-patient physiotherapy. While he has been actively pursuing the goal of becoming a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapists, Scott's professional development has ensured he is well rounded and able to provide his patients a variety of treatment approaches including Graston Technique certification, manual therapy, myofascial release, acupuncture and sports rehabilitation. With a focus on active recovery from injury and pain, anchored in evidence-based treatment and a hands-on patient centred focus, Scott's approach offers shorter recovery times and long-term results.
Scott's professional work experience has included but is not limited to, outpatient orthopedics, industrial / work related rehabilitation, sports medicine and the duties of head trainer for Trent University's Men's Rugby club. Scott has also worked as a Can-Fit-Pro certified personal trainer with the motivation that he could share his passion for general health and fitness with everyone.
Leaving his McGill Redmen football cleats behind, these days when not at work, you will find Scott spending time at the gym, playing recreational sports and trying to learn a few social dances like Salsa and Swing.

Victoria Kerr

As a former Canadian National Team athlete, Victoria continues to immerse herself in the rigorous training programs of her clients both professional and amateur. Her experience as an elite level athlete has enabled her to have an innate understanding of what it takes to get that competitive edge.
Graduating with honours from the massage therapy program at Algonquin College in 2003, Victoria strives to integrate her clinical experience with new techniques, in order to provide her patients the relief they need. Her passion for learning and sport has inspired her to pursue continuing education in Thai massage, sports massage, advanced stretching, flexibility training, sports injury and rehabilitation.
As a new Mom, Victoria understands the needs of women going through the wonderful experience of pregnancy. She has completed a number of courses in prenatal and infant massage, which can be an excellent way to address the physiological changes that occur during and after pregnancy and can also create an amazing bonding environment for both mother and father with their newborn baby.
Born and raised in Ottawa, Victoria continues to be an active member of the community and volunteers her free time to various charities such as United Way, Run for the Cure, and Juvenile Diabetes research.
As an integral part of the Active Health Institute, Victoria strongly believes in a multi-disciplinary approach and looks forward to contributing to the overall health and wellness of the Barrhaven (Ottawa) community.

Jon Beals, RMT
Registered Massage Therapist
Having graduated from an intense 2200 hour Massage and Hydrotherapy program and earning a sports specialist certificate, Jon has settled in Ottawa to begin his practice as a registered massage therapist. He strongly believes in an integrative and multidisciplinary approach to healthcare, hence, his decision to join the Active Health Institute.
As a former personal trainer and athlete, Jon has both personal and professional experience with sports injuries. Hence, he can attest to the importance of proper preventative measures in maintaining a long competitive career.
As a therapist, Jon has a passion for evidence-based massage therapy and is constantly researching to stay up-to-date with modern advances in the field. He believes massage plays an important role in preventing and treating muscle and joint discomfort resulting from post-exercise soreness, postural adaptations, and chronic injuries. His treatment style includes techniques such as myofascial release, trigger point therapy, joint mobilizations, active muscle stripping, advanced stretching, hydrotherapy, sport massage, and deep tissue massage.

Ben

Health and fitness has always been apart of Ben's life, participating in a number of sports including hockey, baseball, soccer and football. He pursued his passion of fitness and sport at Wilfrid Laurier University, where he completed a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education, followed by a Masters of Science in Kinesiology at Brock University.
Ben is a Certified Kinesiologist with the Ontario Kinesiology Association and a Health and Fitness Specialist with the American College of Sports Medicine. Presently, he is working towards attaining the Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist Certification with the American College of Sports Medicine.
The focus of Ben's studies has been on the science of health and fitness, including the science of exercise, movement, metabolism and nutrition. After completing his studies Ben gained valuable work experience at a cardiac health and fitness clinic in Waterloo, Ontario working with clients of all ages with cardiac, metabolic and musculoskeletal problems as well as with those simply wishing to improve their health. Ben very much enjoys providing the instruction, education and motivation to empower his clients to lead a healthier lifestyle.
Ben's enthusiasm and passion for health and fitness are also demonstrated through his own personal and physical goals. He strongly believes; "if exercise were discovered today, it would be considered a miracle drug."
